Mortal Life

In the Second Book of Samuel we read,

“As for God, His way is blameless and perfect;
The word of the Lord is tested.
He is a shield to all those who take refuge and trust in Him"
[2-Sam 22:31]

Seeking refuge in Him, He shall liberate us from all our sins. This world which seems to be ours cannot be with us forever. Even the great kings and emperors, who once were at the climax of glory have been devoured by death. Therefore, we should not waste our valuable human life which has been bestowed upon us by the grace of our God. We tend to seek refuge in money and comfort, but we must remember that these worldly things are perishable. So you will get nothing but deception. Since the worldly things which bring happiness are perishable, the worldly happiness is certainly perishable, while our God is imperishable.

So, we should have a clear aim for our daily life. Without an aim our life will be like a person who starts his journey without knowing where he wants to go. Our journey of our life started from the time we were born and our life is passing quickly but we don't know what we have to do, where we have to go and what is the aim of our life. Sometimes the aim of many becomes one worldly thing, then another and so on. But remember all worldly things are perishable. To know and become one with God, who is imperishable and everlasting must be ones aim in life. The Lord warns us about the same in the Book of Revelation,

“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is he who stays awake and who keeps his clothes [that is, stays spiritually ready for the Lord’s return], so that he will not be naked—spiritually unprepared—and men will not see his shame.”
[Revelation 16:15]

Do not try to gain anything by deceiving others. We are living in a world that is mortal. All men have to die and life is uncertain. Therefore, do not remain careless, be warned and do the work for which you are called for. The time is passing by and we would not be able to recreate any past timeline. Think carefully and be careful for the future without lamenting over the time that is wasted. Remember God and take refuge in Him always.

All the worldly things cannot live with us, they will leave us surely and actually they are not ours while God and His Spirit always lives with us and He is ours. Therefore call Him by addressing Him as Lord and Savior. The Psalmist says,

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
[Psalm 18:2]

What is the real cause of sufferings and distress? The reason is our disinclination for Him and inclination for perishable worldly things such as pleasure, respect, pride, money, etc. We cannot continue to pleasure ourselves with perishable things. But by nature if we are good, beneficent, helpful and conscious of God all the time we will not have to worry about any suffering or distress. This will be our real wealth. When we leave our home for a travel to another place we make every arrangement for conveyance and comfort, similarly we should be thoughtful if we have made any arrangements before we leave the world. Therefore we must make our nature pure and beneficent and constantly remember God as our refuge. Men can overcome the world only be constant remembrance of God. King David makes this very clear in Psalm 34 and Psalm 71.

I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
[Psalm 34:1]

My mouth is filled with Your praise
And with Your glory "all day long".
[Psalm 71:8]

Without constant remembrance of God, our live will become empty. Practicing constant remembrance of God will prove useful at the time of death. The wealth, property, family, respect, pleasure, pride and other worldly possessions will be of no use at the time of death. At the time of death all our activities without spiritual discipline will be futile. Those who say they do not have time for constant remembrance of God are fundamentally wrong. Study of the Word of God, Constance Remembrance, Adoration and Meditation is required for well-being of every soul. It is a clear fact that no one in this world except God is ours. In the Book of Isaiah we can see how God loves us back as we read,

Indeed, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
[Isaiah 49:16]

Can we say the same about Him? Do we have Him inscribed in us? Therefore, it would be appropriate for us to remember Him at all times and do what pleases Him without any selfish motive.
